OGUNLENDE ADVOCATES EFFECTIVE AND POSITIVE USE OF LAGOS STATE TOLL-FREE EMERGENCY HOTLINES

Throttling through the dark blanket of the night, the Chairman of the Conference-57 Chief Press Secretaries in Lagos State, Comr. Ayodele Ayeyemi paid a scheduled and critical visit to the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Relations, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende (RAK) in his office.

The visit was prompted by the loud-mouthed report on the need to further intensify more efforts on the sensitization of Lagosians on the need to continue making use of the Lagos State toll-free emergency hotlines, 767 and 112. He spoke on how effective are these Lagos State emergency numbers to support Lagosians particularly in time of distress and response agencies.

Mr. Mobolaji who gave some necessary warnings, appealed further to Lagosians for effective use of the emergency numbers during the festive period. He advised the publics not to abuse calling the telephone numbers set aside for emergency situation. In his words, “Calling 767 or 112 is for emergency assistance only. If you call any of the numbers for another reason. It is considered abuse or misuse either intentionally or accidentally”.

According to him, “it is illegal for anyone to call the emergency numbers for fun and irrelevant issues as offenders would be liable to fine or jail term”. He added.

Lagos State Government in its effort to respond effectively to emergency situations set up hotlines to receive information and assist affected persons.
It has however, been observed that since the provision of the emergency numbers, a good number of callers were using them for purposes other than the intended one.

He however urged Lagosians to vote for all the candidates of All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023 General Elections starting from party presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-olu, et al.

For all emergencies, residents are expected to call 112 or 767 for prompt emergency response and to report safety infractions.
